Work-In-Progress Wednesday #10

I've been having one of those weeks where it feels like my entire life is a WIP that's misbehaving. You know what I mean? Dropped stitches, missed cable crosses, extra yarnovers or not enough, endless knitting with no progress visible-- that's how things feel lately. Nothing outright terrible has happened to me (unlike my dear friend who just lost her grandfather... we're thinking of you! *virtual hugs* ) so I try to keep things in perspective and just keep on keepin' on, as they say. Just keep knitting, right?

First Garment:
Valley Yarns Berkshire Bulky, colorway Stone Blue
My bulky lace vest has been in this condition for the past week. The pieces are knitted, blocked, and ready to be seamed but I haven't had the opportunity or the energy to pay attention to it yet. Hopefully I'll be able to address it this weekend and bang out the edgings and the collar by Rhinebeck!

Beribboned Gift:
Malabrigo Yarns Worsted, colorway Natural
In the spirit of Malabrigo October Stockpile, I've cast on a pair of my Beribboned Wrists pattern to give as a gift for the holidays this year. That is my second of the pair and it's working up nicely even though I neglected to look at my own pattern and followed the DK chart for the Worsted size... woops. The only difference between the Worsted and DK sizes (besides gauge and cast on number) is that the yarnovers that you thread the ribbon through are closer together for the Worsted and more spread out for the DK size because the DK mitts are longer to use up more yarn. Oh well, it can be a frankenmitt! I'll be adding the optional thumbs to these mitts and doing i-cord instead of ribbon just to keep things interesting.

As for my other WIPs, the Beautiful Briny Sea shawl and the Lillypad socks look pretty much the same, except I did turn the heel of the socks. I have to get back to those but first: EXCITING NEWS! I submitted a few design ideas to Cephalopod Yarns for their Afghans for Afghans charity e-book project being published by Cooperative Press and two of them were accepted! I am so thrilled that they liked my ideas and am anxiously awaiting the yarn to arrive so I can get started on the samples. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to share here but I at least had to tell you all of my first real publication opportunity! If you can't tell, I'm pretty excited about it. ;)

  1. Congrats on the acceptance! I also cannot wait to see the beribboned wrists with icord. Should be fun!

  2. OH WOW! Congrats! That is really great news, thank you for telling us! You are going to be a famous designer one day, I can tell. This is just the beginning! I support your decision to wait to seam until you feel motivated, you will not be a happy camper if you have to start over. Just be patient and you can do it, remember you will definitely be better than me at seaming.
