Guys-- I don't know what to knit. Yeah. I said it. This is such a rare state for me, I hardly even know myself! All through the end of Malabrigo March I was dreaming of everything I wanted to make that was non-Malabrigo-related and now I don't know where to start. Here are my two (ONLY TWO, who am I?!) active WIPs... both still using Malabrigo.
Scarf of Spring:

Malabrigo Yarn Dos, colorway Lettuce |
I love this scarf but it is a bittersweet love because I will not have enough yardage to continue/finish it at any decent length. As pictured, that's about 10 grams of yarn knit up into a 5.5" piece... and I only have 35 grams left. That means my little scarf will be only about 24" long before blocking, which no matter how you slice it is not much of a scarf. I've put out a desperate "in search of" on the Malabrigo board but I'm not holding my breath. If I don't hear anything soon I'll have to frog this and start anew. I like the stitch pattern a lot, though, so I'm hoping to incorporate it elsewhere.
For Belinda:
|
Malabrigo Rios, colorway Archangel |
I have been seeing a physical therapist for the last couple of months for some hip/pelvic pain I've been having and she is amazing and fantastic and definitely deserving of some knitwear. She is so good at her job and her hands work so incredibly hard that I thought a bright and cheery pair of fingerless mitts would do the trick. I'm improvising as I go and that fun swirly stitch is a smaller version of the Estonian shell stitch that is featured in my
Syrinx Shells cowl pattern.
So now, what to knit for myself? I'm debating so many different things, there are at least 2 different socks, 3 different shawls, a couple of scarves, a few designs, and TWENTY-EIGHT hibernating WIPs (
oy!) all vying for attention, wanting to be knit next.
The knitter's quandary. It's a rough one. What do you do in these situations?
Well hmmmm. I say tackle the WIPs, but then again I don't even do that myself. I think it just depends on how much attention you want to have to put towards your projects. Those mitts look like fun! I hope your friend likes them. And I'm sorry about the scarf, the stitch pattern is lovely...
ReplyDeleteThat is an excellent point! Pesky WIPs...
DeleteOh my goodness, you do have a tough situation! I would pick 2 of the projects that are closest to being done, and go from there. Finish those ones, then cast on something new, and then just alternate. At least, that's what I would do... If I was in any way consistent about it :)
ReplyDeleteI love the color of those mitts, your physical therapist is a lucky one!
It appears that I've cast on two new things... but will also alternate with one WIP! Might not be perfect but it's better than nothing. :)
DeleteMake that Scarf of Spring into a Cowl of Spring with buttons! You could do little i-cord loops at the ends.
ReplyDeleteI did think about that, it's not quite wide enough for my taste in cowls, but I might rip back and knit the stitch pattern in the round for a taller one.
DeleteI absolutely love the Archangel colorway, I could never wear those colors with my complexion, but that doesn't mean I cannot admire your pretty knits using it. I'm really sorry to hear about the pain, I'm sure that it is very disruptive in your life. I have an inflammatory disease that used to manifest with horrible pelvic pain, luckily I'm in remission, but I can definitely sympathize with you. It is great that you found a good medical professional to work with and she sure is lucky to have someone to knit her something gorgeous in return!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'd wear Archangel either, but it is fun knitting with it for people who would! Glad to hear your illness has subsided, pelvic pain is zero fun and it really does get in the way. Who knew you used your hips so much, right?
DeleteWhat would I do? I think I'd pick one of each project, sock, shawl and scarf. But I do nothing in moderation!
ReplyDeleteI love the mitts using that shell stitch, it's such a nice detail. As for what to knit, I would maybe try and knit a few rows of any hibernating WIPs to see if they 'catch', then if that doesn't work, scan my queue and favorites to see if anything there happens to catch my eye.
