So Close!

To clarify from yesterday's post, I'm out of work now because my temporary seasonal position ended. (Ahh, the glamorous life of an underpaid scientist.) The Fiasco makes enough at his shiny new teaching position so that we're not desperate for survival, but I am actively looking for another job and/or PhD position (whichever presents itself first), especially since we want to be able to have a wedding sometime this century. Let the hunt begin!

I had taken a few days 'off' from designing to let myself work on other people's patterns for a while, so I've made some decent progress on my Color Affection shawl:

Isn't that the loveliest tangled heap of garter stitch you've ever seen? ;) Those white stitches on the needle to the right are all I have left to work in the short row section. Not too bad! The end is in sight. Which is a good thing, because I only have a teensy bit of the undyed yarn left. Of course, I have not read the edging directions in a while so I'm not sure how many rows beyond that I will have to knit, but I'm feeling pretty good about my end of September deadline. (Cue ominous she shouldn't have said that! music here.)

Also guess what? We're getting a new kitten tomorrow evening! I was a dummy and did not bring a camera when we went looking but we found the most adorable white-and-orange long-haired kitten ever. He is super sweet. Be prepared for a slew of epic cuteness on this blog in the near future. He was just fixed the other day and I am told he is doing very well. I've wanted another cat for a while, since my dear Calypso gets very lonely when we are gone all day, but I was always too worried about how she would adjust to a new addition. Now that I'm going to be home for a little while, I figured it would be easier for me to introduce the two cats and play referee if need be.

Calypso does not look super impressed with this plan. Keep your fingers crossed that she likes her new friend! Do you have any kitty introduction tips?
